HCA Member Show 2025

works of art were submitted to enter the show this year from  towns and state. The artwork submitted this year was excellent, and narrowing it down was extremely difficult. However, the works selected will make a powerful portrayal of our community of artists.  Juror Sarah Alexander selected  for display in the gallery. She is a Core Artist Member at Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.  Her work is in private collections and has been shown extensively throughout New England, as well as abroad. Sarah's work has been published by North Light Books.

The HCA Members Show 2025 Exhibition will be available for viewing at the HCA's Lotvin Family Gallery January 6, 2025 - February 6,  2024 as well as online here.

The HCA gallery hours for public viewing: Monday - Fridays 9 am - 7 pm and Saturdays 9 am - 2 pm. If you wish to bring a group of 6 or more people to view the exhibit, please contact the HCA in advance to schedule a group visit.

Artwork Description for Gallery Label: On a recent trip to France, a visit to The Louvre was on the agenda. Amongst the beautiful art in the museum, I glanced outside to observe a distinguished courtyard with a dramatic sky. The scene outside was as amazing as the art within. My wish would be to visit Paris, stroll around the perimeter of the museum, and enjoy the wonderful architecture that encompasses the breathtaking art.

Dimensions: 12 x 16 x 1.5
Medium: oil
Year created: 2024
Artwork Description for Gallery Label: Snow and winter? I still have mixed feelings about it. I'm from France, where winters are mostly rainy and mild. But then I moved to New England, where snowstorms are like something out of a fairy tale. Even after two decades, I still get giddy when it snows! Now, winter sports? not my thing. I find the cold and wet conditions too uncomfortable. Unlike those folks with nostalgic tales of snowball fights and sledding, I missed out on all that fun. As an artist who loves painting outdoors in the mild weather of the Loire Valley, snow poses a bit of a problem. I mean, I'd love to capture its beauty on canvas, but let's be real, I'm not exactly a snow whisperer. But there was one special moment when my husband was driving, and I was in the passenger seat. The morning after a snowfall, the sunlight was just perfect. I whipped out my phone and I quickly snapped several photos with my phone. That very evening, I started painting like there was no tomorrow. Talk about a thrilling artistic adventure!

The slate represents the muscle, strong yet vulnerable, while the delicate seed beads symbolize the plasma injection—integral to the restoration. The vibrant rainbow colors weave through the piece, illustrating the stages of healing as they gradually bring balance, strength, and renewal to the injured body. This piece is a tribute to the quiet power of recovery and the transformation from injury to healing.

$850.00

Dimensions: 14 x 11 x 2
Medium: Stained glass mosaic
Year created: 2024
Artwork Description for Gallery Label: Though I did not grow up in a rural community, I was always interested in my father’s stories of spending summers with relatives on their farms in Prince Edward Island, Canada. It was at county fairs that I learned about farm animals. As a photographer and mosaic artist, I am drawn to old barns and farm animals. In recent years, there seems to be a resurgence in local farming. I now know people raising chickens and buying produce through farmers' markets and shares in local farms. Visiting farms, now called agritourism, also became a popular outdoor activity for families during and after the COVID pandemic and is now the fastest-growing agricultural sector in Massachusetts. These trends inspired me to develop a mosaic series on local farming.

Sarah DeSalvo

Dimensions: 10.5 x 8
Medium: ink and colored pencil
Year created: 2024
Artwork Description for Gallery Label: These are two original characters of mine that I created for a comic/story I am working on called Devil's Hand. Their names are Devil's Hand (the guy on the left) and Khristina (the girl on the right). The story that revolves around them is one of romance, supernatural, and self-discovery. I have been drawing comics for a few years now, and I also love to write novel length stories. Drawing is my passion that I have been doing as far back as I can remember. I have yet to complete a writing project/whole book yet, but I am still optimistic and the support I get from readers keeps me motivated.

Shadows on Snow
Shadows on Snow
Megann Filios

Dimensions: 12 x 12 x 1.5
Medium: Mixed Media: Recycled cardboard, recycled paper, spackling and acrylic paint
Year created: 2024
Artwork Description for Gallery Label: This piece is based on a poem I wrote while thinking about losing someone close to me. I was thinking about the many happy winters together and the long shadows we cast in the snow, and the colors that live in those shadows. Shadow and memory are both such ephemeral things, but with so much texture and depth. The art and the poem came together in my mind, I couldn't have made one without the other. Shadows on snow this crystal morning I didn't want to write this or think about the last snowfall breaking down every color into deep blue grey the sun has moved and so have you into a storm I cannot follow the shadow remains cast against the white through every winter of my life
Bright Spots
Bright Spots
Meredith Fitzgerald
$150.00

Dimensions: 9 x 12
Medium: pastel
Year created: 2024
Artwork Description for Gallery Label: The triangulation of neon colors inspired me to recreate this worksite scene in pastel. Although I do a lot of landscapes, it was a fun switch to do a painting about landscaping. When a tree removal company came to take care of some dead trees in my neighborhood, I was fascinated by all the machinery, prep and execution and took tons of pictures. Then I looked them over and was drawn to the safety orange of the cone, lime green of the safety jacket and the bright spot of the blue-raspberry Coolatta. I think the Dunkin Donuts drink makes this a quintessential New England scene even if not a typical "landscape" painting.

Dimensions: 20 x 24 x 1
Medium: Oil
Year created: 2024
Artwork Description for Gallery Label: While visiting Marty’s Vineyard a few years ago with my brother and sister-in-law we rented a Jeep and drove around the island. This was a new adventure for us. I loved the scenery at the cliffs in Aquinnha and snapped a photo of them. Last year, I felt I was ready to try painting those cliffs. For me, the fun part of the painting was doing the flowers in the foreground. I probably spent the most time on them.

The Bunny Dune Cottage
The Bunny Dune Cottage
Chris Hamilton

Dimensions: 18 x 22 x 1
Medium: Watercolor
Year created: 2024
Artwork Description for Gallery Label: The Bunny Dune is a tiny cottage in South Wellfleet, Massachusetts, Cape Cod. Built roughly seven decades ago, it has remained in the same family. The front porch overlooks the bay leading out to Lieutenant Island. The design is a simple box, standing in very weathered shingles. Its interior, four rooms, two up-two down, and one tiny closet of a bathroom, looks just as weathered. What seems like paper thin walls makes for "no secrets", and lots of laughs. To date, there have been few changes to this old place. Still, it stands. As the cottage has endured the test of time, so have my memories, and there are many. Happy thoughts of summer fun with friends and family, hot weather, (once, a hurricane), sunsets from the porch, scary jumps off the dock, walks through a scrub pine woods to the general store to get a Coke in a green bottle, board games in the evenings, cooking out, and so much laughing, has prompted me to "put to paint" this house, as a pleasant reminder. Although my time there was during the summer season, I have painted Bunny Dune in late autumn, showing its age. Even now, it stands proudly on its sandy lot, ready for another generation of happy times.
