HCA Member Show 2025

works of art were submitted to enter the show this year from  towns and state. The artwork submitted this year was excellent, and narrowing it down was extremely difficult. However, the works selected will make a powerful portrayal of our community of artists.  Juror Sarah Alexander selected  for display in the gallery. She is a Core Artist Member at Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.  Her work is in private collections and has been shown extensively throughout New England, as well as abroad. Sarah's work has been published by North Light Books.

The HCA Members Show 2025 Exhibition will be available for viewing at the HCA's Lotvin Family Gallery January 6, 2025 - February 6,  2024 as well as online here.

The HCA gallery hours for public viewing: Monday - Fridays 9 am - 7 pm and Saturdays 9 am - 2 pm. If you wish to bring a group of 6 or more people to view the exhibit, please contact the HCA in advance to schedule a group visit.

Judy McGrail

Dimensions: 12 x 9
Medium: Oil
Year created: 2024
Artwork Description for Gallery Label: The scene is reminiscent of a walk in Paris, or NYC, people taking a leisurely stroll, others with places to go in a hurry. In any event, brightness and beauty prevails even on a rainy day. This piece is a departure from my use of watercolors as a medium yet one can see that the composition is influenced by watercolor techniques.

Splendor in the Grass?
Greg Michel
$350.00

Dimensions: 21.5 x 27
Medium: Acrylic
Year created: 2024
Artwork Description for Gallery Label: My favorite medium is oil. I rarely use acrylic paint and have never attempted to practice abstract painting before. This piece of abstract art was created while taking a series of experimental class at HCA. After completion, a hidden image of some kind of wild animal in an enchanted forest seemed to materialize. Could it be a large cat hidden in the tall undergrowth?

Dimensions: 22 x 18 x 1
Medium: oil on wood panel
Year created: 2021
Artwork Description for Gallery Label: I was born in Boston and raised in the suburb of Quincy. Weekends were filled with trips to visit grandparents and/or participate in the many Boston activities with them or cousins. Downtown shopping at the famous Filene's Basement or movies in the grand theaters often ended with supper in a restaurant like Howard Johnson's or Regina's Pizzeria. I painted Regina's Original to recapture a bit of the good old days.

Aimee Morgida

Dimensions: 9 x 12 x 1
Medium: Oil
Year created: 2024
Artwork Description for Gallery Label: This is my third painting so I am working with shading, tones and learning to paint figures. I loved the art deco style of the original by Julia Hawkins titled "In the Shade" that inspired me to do this piece. As I spend a great deal of my time on the beach, this painting reminds me of relaxed summer days and a slower paced schedule.
 Garden
Garden
Linda Palladino
$150.00

Dimensions: 16 x 13 x 2
Medium: Acrylic paint, pressed garden flowers, collage material
Year created: 2024
Artwork Description for Gallery Label: The poem of Edna St. Vincent Millay captures my love of gardening. I lose myself when my hands are tilling the soil and yes, I have actually gardened by the moonlight. Carving out a flowering space where butterflies, bees, dragonflies and hummingbirds can display their beauty lifts up my soul ( I think you will agree that worries seem to fade away!). When the flowers begin to close out their season, I prepare them for the flower press so their beauty can continue to be enjoyed. You will see an example in this piece. This collage titled "Garden" was designed to bring the memory of warmer, more colorful days to the you. Just a piece to enjoy and hopefully make you smile. Cold months will soon enough turn into longer days and it will be time for all that life resting under the soil to spring forward again. Then it won't be just a memory but another season around the sun. More color, more fragrance, more buzzing and more life breaking through the restful silence of winter. In the meantime, indoor gardening will have to do.
Bring Your Own Sunshine
Bring Your Own Sunshine
Elena Rebrina
$300.00

Dimensions: 14 x 14 x 1.5
Medium: Acrylic, mixed media
Year created: 2023
Artwork Description for Gallery Label: This painting is a manifestation of my deep connection to the quote: “I want to be like a sunflower, so even on the darkest days, I will stand tall, and find the sunlight.” It speaks to the resilience and inner strength we all possess, the ability to seek out light even in the midst of darkness. This piece is a reminder that we can choose to BE the sun, to bring our own SUNSHINE and share our light with those around us. As I painted, I felt a profound sense of empowerment, knowing that like the sunflower, I too can find my own sunshine and stand tall, no matter the challenges I face. I hope this painting serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for others to find their inner light and share it with the world.

John Sherffius

Dimensions: 20 x 16 x 1
Medium: Acrylic
Year created: 2024
Artwork Description for Gallery Label: A weekend visit to Block Island in late summer of 2024 turned stormy. As my wife and I walked down an empty road to visit a historic lighthouse, we were met with strong winds, an impressive display of ocean waves and, later on, lots of rain. Needless to say, the weather was not exactly what we had hoped for! Still, the storm-related scenery was beautiful, and definitely memorable.
Killary Fjord, Connemara, Ireland
Killary Fjord, Connemara, Ireland
Judith Smith
$250.00

Dimensions: 11 x 14 x 1
Medium: Watercolor
Year created: 2024
Artwork Description for Gallery Label: On a trip to Ireland in August of 2023, I captured multiple photos of Killary Fjord in Connemara near Kylemore Abbey. I finally had a chance to sort through and choose one as a reference for this painting completed in the spring of 2024. I was surprised to discover that Ireland had a fjord carved out of rugged rock by a glacier during the Ice Age. I tried to evoke the serenity of the reflected hills in the water while contemplating the rough gouging of rock which formed the fjord. It is this dichotomy in Ireland that engaged my heart and soul. I felt a strong connection to my ancestors who struggled to live during the famine and bravely travelled to Ellis Island, New York.

Between us
Between us
Rachana Sudhaman

Dimensions: 24 x 18 x 0.5
Medium: Acrylic
Year created: 2024
Artwork Description for Gallery Label: This acrylic painting titled "Between us" captures a serene and intimate moment between two women having a conversation by a tranquil lake. This composition with vibrant shades of green pink and yellow dominate the scene in contrast to the softer shades of blue creating a sense of warmth and harmony. The green tones in the painting evoke a sense of calm and connection with nature. The lush, leafy backdrop of the trees is rendered in rich, textured stroked creating a feeling of depth and vitality while the cooler shades of blue reinforces the peaceful nature of the conversation. The women themselves, painted in shades of pink and brown, stand out against the verdant landscape and the calm lake. The pinks and browns evoke a sense of affection and familiarity, hinting at the emotional closeness between the figures, while the yellow adds a gentle vibrancy, suggesting warmth, optimism and the lightheartedness of youth. The blend of colors around the figures' expressions and body language enhances the sense of intimacy and connection. The relationship between the two women and the depth of their relationship was something I was trying to bring out in this painting. Depicting something as intangible as that on canvas was new to me and challenging.
